The City College of New York maintains an ongoing commitment in upholding lawful and ethical conduct in research activities. The College receives funding and awards from the Public Health Service (PHS), the National Science Foundation (NSF) and other Federal, State, and private sponsors, and as such, is obligated to comply with applicable policies, laws, and regulations as driven by these agencies and the City University of New York (CUNY).
The Office of Research Compliance & Ethics (RCE) expects to further the College’s fundamental mission of excellence in teaching, research, and service by promoting and providing campus-wide education and safety in the conduct of all research activities; incorporating and adhering to the highest standards set forth in ethical and research integrity; and establishing a cooperative framework for research compliance that will foster a cultural awareness of responsibility and conscience for research-related Federal and State laws, regulations and policies.
RCE's objectives include providing information and support to City College’s research community, and ensuring those systems are in place to facilitate researchers’ adherence to the laws, rules and policies governing their research activities in a safe, effective, and efficient manner. RCE aims to be proactive in anticipating and preventing research related problems before they arise without impairing the research.
RCE works closely with the Grants & Sponsored Programs Office (pre and post award) to ensure that staff and faculty engaged in research at the College are in compliance with institutional, state and federal rules, regulations and policies regarding the safety and care of its researchers and subjects. RCE also works closely with Animal Care Facility personnel and the Office of Environmental Health & Safety, as well as CUNY Office of Research.
